As the Director of Personal Care and Memory Care, Tamara has consistently demonstrated excellence, especially during challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic, when many healthcare professionals stepped back from the field.

Tamara has been an invaluable team member since she joined Treyton Oak Towers as an LPN in 2007. Over the years, she has advanced from a floor nurse to the Director of the Personal Care and Memory Care units, a position she has held since 2022. Her journey reflects her dedication and passion for providing outstanding care to individuals as they age.

Treyton Oak Towers is a Life Plan Community offering residents a full continuum of retirement living and care, from independent living to assisted living and skilled nursing to long-term care. The Health Center at Treyton Oak Towers consists of 113 rooms, including 34 dedicated to personal care, 19 to memory care, and 60 for skilled and long-term nursing.

In her current role, Tamara oversees the daily operations of three floors that comprise the Personal Care and Memory Care units, ensuring that the unique needs of 53 residents are met with compassion and professionalism. The Personal Care unit assists residents who require help with activities of daily living (ADLs), which are essential tasks that individuals perform to care for themselves and maintain their well-being. Tamara and her healthcare team assist with ADLs such as eating, dressing, bathing, using the toilet, and getting in and out of bed or a chair, as well as administering medication. They also provide engaging activities for residents and serve as liaisons between families, staff, and residents, monitoring any changes in cognition or ADLs.

Tamara’s commitment to the residents she serves is evident in every interaction with them and their families. Her leadership ensures that residents enjoy life to the fullest at every age and stage, giving families peace of mind that their loved ones are receiving quality, person-centered care.

Gary Preece, the Executive Director and Health Administrator of Treyton Oak Towers’ Health Center, highlights Tamara’s significant contributions:

“Tamara’s leadership in Personal Care and Memory Care elevates the health, wellness, and care for which Treyton Oak Towers is recognized. She ensures that caring staff are retained and that leadership, professionalism, and compassion underpin every decision and action. This reflects not only her dedication but also her ability to inspire those around her to prioritize quality care.”

Tamara’s impact is echoed by Donesha Mitchell, the Activities Coordinator in the Personal Care and Memory Care units, who states, “Tamara deserves a Health Care Hero award because she embodies everything one envisions when thinking about what a nurse should be. Mention her name to anyone on the Personal Care/Memory Care units, and you will hear only praise—she is knowledgeable, confident, a critical thinker, kind, hardworking, and compassionate.” This sentiment is shared among residents and staff alike, underscoring Tamara’s effectiveness as a leader and caregiver.

Tamara is known for running a well-organized unit and providing the highest quality of care while fostering a nurturing environment for her staff.  Donesha further explains,

“When a member of her team encounters a difficult time or personal emergency, she goes out of her way to accommodate them so they can focus on their family matters. Whenever a nurse or aide needs assistance on the floor, Tamara is always willing to help. Her daily challenges never deter her mission to deliver quality care to our residents. She is remarkable in the number of roles she performs. Tamara deserves all the recognition for being an exceptional nurse and someone I, like many others, look up to as a true leader who loves what she does.”
